Big Idea – Loyola Recycling Installation

Loyola University and Baltimore Trash Talk work together to raise the recycling question… Baltimore Trash Talk’s River of Recylables was featured in the Fall/Winter issue of Conversations. Conversations is published twice-yearly to coincide with the start of the fall and spring semesters.  Articles are solicited from across the country to explore many varied topics and are written to stimulate the campus dialogue on the pursuit of various ideals. The Fall issue article outlines the collaborative planning between myself, associate professor of studio arts Janet Maher, and Taylor Casalena, an employee with sustainability initiatives, Loyola students, faculty, staff, and administrators to create an installation on Loyola’s main quad. The event and installation were designed to involve and inspire the students on the topic of sustainability to be-come stronger stewards of our environment. Extra Heavy Duty thanks to Janet and Taylor, who were the real driving forces behind this installation. Without Taylor’s tireless efforts and Janet’s vision to bring this experience to the Students of Loyola, this would never have happened. It was an uplifting experience.
